Hurricane Helene: U-Haul Offers 30 Days Free Storage at 432 Locations
U-Haul stores across the Carolinas, Tennessee, Virigina and Kentucky have joined locations in Florida, Georgia and Alabama to participate in the disaster relief effort
Update: On Sept. 27, U-Haul added another 191 Company-owned facilities across eight states to its 30 days free self-storage disaster relief offer for people impacted by Hurricane Helene, now a tropical depression.
U-Haul regional offices in North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky have joined locations in Florida, Georgia and Alabama by extending one month of free self-storage or U-Box portable container usage to persons needing a dry and secure space to keep their belongings during the storm clean-up.
There are now 432 U-Haul stores providing disaster relief: 136 in Florida; 78 in Georgia; 48 in North Carolina; 48 in Tennessee; 35 in Alabama; 34 in Virginia; 30 in South Carolina; 19 in Kentucky; two in Indiana; and two in Mississippi.
Helene has moved inland and dumped huge amounts of rainfall across Georgia and the Carolinas, causing massive flooding and substantial damage in some areas. Neighboring states Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky face the potential of flooding that could impact residences and businesses.
For those needing to take advantage of the free storage offer, please see the list of participating locations below. The disaster relief program applies to new self-storage and U-Box rentals and is based on availability at each store.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Sept. 24, 2024) — U-Haul is offering 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box portable container use to people in the path of soon-to-be Hurricane Helene, projected as a major storm that will make landfall Thursday along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Helene is forecasted to bring life-threatening storm surges, heavy rains and damaging winds to parts of the South. Models indicate the storm could center on Florida’s Big Bend region before moving into Georgia and eastern Alabama. Flooding is likely along Florida’s panhandle and western coastline.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 61 counties, and residents should be on alert for potential evacuations. Access to dry and secure self-storage and mobile storage containers can be essential for the communities before and after natural disasters.
Nineteen U-Haul Companies have preemptively made 241 facilities available across Florida (136 stores), Georgia (70 stores) and Alabama (35 stores) to offer a month of free storage services, allowing those making hurricane preparations access to the disaster relief program in addition to people who will need help after the storm.
The free offer applies to new self-storage and U-Box rentals and is based on availability at each individual Company-owned and -operated location. Please reference the cities below with participating stores and contact your nearest U-Haul office to arrange 30 days of free storage services:
